death to abs - because they need love too!

I dont often work abs since every exercise I do, I tend to engage them in a very targeted way (standing exercises vs sitting, such as shoulder presses, skullcrushers, and leg exercises).  Every two weeks I like to throw in an intense ab day just to keep things "growing."  Abs are a muscle group like any other in your body.  To pop em up and out, hit them hard and heavy.  

Oh, and if your eating habits suck and youre not doing cardio, then forget about seeing cuts...

Unless youve been genetically enhanced with the metabolism of a Hummingbird - then go on....eat your Big Macs and sit on your ass.  Nice abs, by the way.  

Here are a few ways I have gotten creative with my ab exercises.  Because yeah, I hated doing ab exercises.  

"Who needs them...theyre boring!"

Well you do, sweetheart.  Trust me, your workouts will be so much more effective.

Regardless of seeing definition in your mid or not, it's important for all around health and wellness to keep those puppies firm and TIGHT!

Don't coast mindlessly through abs - aim to BURN!   And yes omfg they really do burn.



Ab Straps Dance Party.  Why?  Because you look like you're jiving in the straps. 
Key take aways:
Keep shoulders relaxed!
EXHALE as you lift
Knees come to elbows with a slight tuck in your bottom spine
Reverse the same way you came up - control your legs....
Dont swing! 


Captain's Chair V for VENDETTA.  Or vengeance....because it'll make you mad your abs arent stronger when youre done with this one.  Youll wanna go after your mid with a vengeance. 
Key take aways:
Keep shoulders relaxed!
EXHALE as you lift
Dont just let legs hang
Keep feet pointed, straight - whatever helps you feel the burn most intensely
Dont swing legs on the way down - hips dont move! 



Hanging Dumbbell Ab MASSACRE....because...well, just do this one.  Now you know.
Key take aways:
EXHALE as you lift
Keep that dumbbell gripped TIGHT between your feet - it will want to run away!
Knees come to chest with a slight tuck in your bottom spine
KNEES DO NOT COME APART
Reverse the same way you came up - control your legs....
Dont swing! 
You may also do this in a captain's chair, ab straps etc etc be fancy and creative.

Yes yes dumbbells again floor lifts.  Because youre not done adding weight to your ab exercises.
Key take aways:
Yes, it's challenging to lift your legs up with a dumbbell between your feet, so I use the edge of my gym's heavy mats. Grip your hands tight but keep your back and neck relaxed.
EXHALE into your lift.
Dont kick legs up or let them mindlessly drop down - control each step and do not let dumbbell touch the ground!
Come up about 35 degrees - or so.
Grip those feet tight and keep those legs locked out!  Dont let that dumbbell slip outta your feet on the up.  I almost did that.  I like my face too much.  Keep your feet TIGHT!!

this, my darkened path i stroll looking down into the brush, with its edges that feather dust my ankles searching with strain until i flicker a glance at a glimmering edge of the path and know it's really there i cant be concerned with what's ahead it only scares the shit out of me it's like i may negate for myself, a place to step if i dont look down and my feet and soul may fall deep into the river some river i dont know any river a lake an ocean i dont know an abyss or an abysmal fate that will come as quickly as my panic to correct my unfortunate misstep but if i mis-stepped, i'd live with this misstep my sickness and pleas to reverse it would be in vain i'd plunge into something that doesnt smell look taste feel like anything ive ever smelled, seen, tasted and touched before it scares the shit out of me im head rushed into thinking about all the "what-ifs" rising and falling in me, my guts raining like glitter into cob web...
