Your meds aren't making you fat - that donut is!!

I love how some people use the meds they take as their excuse for gaining weight.

Have you ever noticed the myriad of side effects a drug warns of? They're called warnings because they're alerts - they're the WHAT IFs of taking a drug because the pharmaceutical companies can give you an "I told you so" if something bad happens to you when you take their substance. Who wants to be sued for not telling you what COULD happen....so they tell you everything.

But I'm in no way trying to knock things that really do happen - there are some out there taking heavy doses and suffering some major illnesses, and thus, major side effects.

I developed cataracts from Steroid drops I needed to tame my Uveitis. That's a side effect.

Today I am on 20mg weekly Methotrexate. Methotrexate is a drug used commonly in low doses to control an over active immune system. It's common for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Leukemia treatment.

I started on 15mg in August and had to go up to 20, for about 3 weeks now. OH and this was after a two month long taper off of Prednisone - having been as high as 80mg for a full week.

And guess what - during my big and grand weight loss success, I was on 3 weeks of 60mg Prednisone daily and still lost weight before Ms Bikini Universe. All my after pics? Anywhere from 50-60mg in my system.

I don't use the drugs I have to take as an excuse not to train. And I don't gain any weight when I'm on these meds, either.

How????

DIET!

EXERCISE!

MAGIC!! Right? WRONG

It's so simple but so many people use it a a crutch! Why is it OK for you to eat donuts just because you're on medication?

Or to eat potato chips now that you're pregnant. Does your BABY really crave those doritos??? Cmon!!! Get real!!!!

I feel like once we make up our minds that something is the way it is, then all else will align in our life to ensure that belief will be true.

If you truly believe you will gain weight by taking that medication, you will soon find yourself in situations that make it difficult for you to refrain from poor food choices. You will find the domino effect that ensues from consuming these poor choices and note that fatigue from this bad food will be a culprit for you skipping your gym time.

I can venge for my dreadful fatigue on the Methotrexate. Sometimes, I feel like a midget under a giant's thumb and it's my mission to get out of my bed every morning. It's frustrating - all I wanna do is sleep. All the time. I feel like a dead soul a lot of the time and it's hard for me to just be me - to be bubbly - to smile or be social. It's really hard sometimes.

And I also work a set 50 hours weekly - not including commute time of 2 total hours daily. Yet I still manage to DRAG myself to the gym every weeknight and have the workout of my life - WITHOUT stimulants.

again,

HOW????

I believe that these meds will make you gain weight because they inscrease your insulin sensitivity. So it becomes even more important to choose foods that won't spike it. I still time these foods to post workout and figure that perhaps my increased sensitivity can be used to my advantage?

It all comes back to diet and the fact that I feel like superwoman when I hit the weights. Surprisingly, I've not even lost much strength. I feel like it's God's way of treating me for pushing - for making it in and vowing to always improve and be strong. "Here you go Shani - here's another surge of willpower to finish that last rep. Ah heck, just do another set while you're at it - you're doing so well!"

Love it!

Who knows. I just know I must still quest for the perfect body - for me. Not as an issue of vanity, though, that helps, but for the sake of being the machine that this beautiful body was meant to be!

it's fun....

....to workout with a broken heart. That's all. To me, nothing's been a better reminder that I'm still alive than forcing myself, physically and mentally, through an emotional setback. It's during those times that I have experienced the greatest triumph and have discovered what I am truly made of.

right where you are and always have been and will forever be

this, my darkened path i stroll looking down into the brush, with its edges that feather dust my ankles searching with strain until i flicker a glance at a glimmering edge of the path and know it's really there i cant be concerned with what's ahead it only scares the shit out of me it's like i may negate for myself, a place to step if i dont look down and my feet and soul may fall deep into the river some river i dont know any river a lake an ocean i dont know an abyss or an abysmal fate that will come as quickly as my panic to correct my unfortunate misstep but if i mis-stepped, i'd live with this misstep my sickness and pleas to reverse it would be in vain i'd plunge into something that doesnt smell look taste feel like anything ive ever smelled, seen, tasted and touched before it scares the shit out of me im head rushed into thinking about all the "what-ifs" rising and falling in me, my guts raining like glitter into cob web...

saving my world

I woke up this morning with the intention of getting some cardio out of the way.  Instead, I reached for my nail polish on my nightstand, touched up my french manicure and laid in bed for about 45 minutes until I decided it was safe to move around. I ran twice on Monday....and sprinted/lunged yesterday....I figured, unless my goal is to completely lose all muscle in my legs, perhaps I need to slow down. It's like that every time I go through a "seasonal" change - and not season like the weather, but season like another one of life's seasons.  I sense the seasons changing.  And when that happens, I am a bundle of energy buzzing and bouncing off the walls without the caffeine.  Relaxing is hard.  I just want to run - I want to paint - I want to be free - I want to inspire - to be inspired - to live and take advantage of all the things that make life great. Where others buckle and fall apart when change occurs, I tend to thrive.  I've always been that wa...
